Registration and Renewal of registration of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicle:
One can access all features and functions of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles only after getting registered. To get your vehicle registered, it must have passed the current inspection quality check and bear the certificate. To buy inspection checked vehicle or apply for inspection, visit www.mytxcar.org. For the first registration, the inspection must be verified manually and then the registration process will be initiated. After registration, a sticker will be provided against your vehicle. The sticker will consist of Vehicle Identification Number, country of registration and license plate number. The date of the expiry of current registration is also mentioned.
After expiration of first registration, you can renew the registration by any of the following modes:
- Online Registration:
The most convenient method is the online registration renewal. Visit www.txdmv.gov. For this, you must start three months before the end date of the current registration. You can also register during the month of expiry or even after the six months expiry of the registration, provided you do not receive any alert of registration expiry from their end. After registering you will have 48 hours to submit the registration fees. Avail the special cashback or discounts on online payment. After that, the process of validation may take up to three weeks. - By Post:
You can also initiate registration via post. You need to complete and send the following documents with your mail request:
- Renewal Notice.
- Copy of VIR (Vehicle Inspection Report)

You can also renew your registration by walking in directly to the office and center of Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. This is also applicable to the ones who are registering for the first time after the inspection. For renewing the registration, you just need to walk in with Notice for renewal. In case you do not have a renewal notice, you need to provide the following info:
- Vehicle identification number.
- License Plate Number.
- Registration receipt of previous year registration.
After registering successfully, you can now log-in to TxDMV Portal and use the features. To access the information like registration history inspection history, etc. (discussed later), you need to have Vehicle Identification Number. Now time to get started:
- Open the browser and visit www.mytxcar.org. (Bookmark for future use).
- Tick on the Captcha check, besides I’m not a robot. This is to verify and prevent any bot access. This prevents any malicious harmful cyber attacks.
- Enter the VIN correctly in the given area. Remember information and history will be available only 24 hours post-infection. You will not get any data the same day after the inspection is completed.
- Click on the Submit button.
You will able to explore desired info and view the history of your vehicle.
